The fast-food restaurant Five Guys Burgers & Fries made headlines in newspapers around the world after an unusual visit in 2009. Ex-president Barack Obama (still President of the United States at the time), made a surprise lunchtime stop at restaurant in Washington, D. C. Can you imagine the scene?! At the end of this post we show a video about the episode selected from YouTube.
The president ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, jalapeno peppers, and mustard, and placed several other to go orders for his staff. He also ordered a cheeseburger for Brian Williams, the anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News. The network is filming a day-in-the-life program, “Inside the Obama White House: Brian Williams Reports,” a two-night special airing June 2 and 3, at 9 p.m. ET.
Although Five Guys is considered a fast food restaurant, the food is really tasty and made only with fresh ingredients, hand-made. Five Guys’ menu offers several options of hot dogs, hamburgers and sandwiches, including vegetarian dishes. The first Five Guys unit was opened in Washington in 1985. Today the brand is a large franchise network with more than 1500 units spread across the United States, Canada and also in some countries in Europe.
Obama’s love for cheeseburgers
Barack Obama revealed his passion for cheeseburgers by visiting another traditional American burger restaurant, the Shake Shack. It seems that Barack Obama enjoyed having meetings with his team and advisers sharing a table and eating cheeseburgers. Despite liking the fast-food style, the ex-president leads a healthy life and is adept at diets rich in vegetables and fiber. His runs to fast-food chains seeking cheeseburgers would be momentary “weaknesses”.
