Yesterday (5) was the first day of Universal Orlando’s reopening, the first major Orlando park to resume operations and reopen to visitors, after three months closed due to the pandemic. Orlando resorts and parks have been closed since March. Yesterday was also the first day of Phase 2 of the economy’s reopening in the state, according to Governor DeSantis’ step-by-step plan. Gradually, and within a coherent plan, the state of Florida resumes its activities.
At Universal the return was made with restrictions and visitors must follow strict measures. There is temperature control at the entrance to the park and everyone is required to wear masks. To encourage social distance, there are marks on the floor and several posters and notices distributed throughout the complex, alerting the importance of taking certain precautions.
To avoid agglomerations, the queues were replaced with virtual passwords through the park application. This way, there is no need to wait at the attractions’ doorstep. The idea was well received by visitors, who did not have to stand in long lines, as is normal in Orlando parks.
Other parks in the Orlando area have also started to resume. Legoland in Winter Haven reopened on Monday. Disney parks have already announced that will return to activities only in July and very gradually.
