Every year, usually in the first week of December, the city of Miami is impacted by a different energy that completely changes the mood and day to day life of people, especially those passionate about art. In the first week of December takes place the famous Miami Art Week (Miami Art Week) flooding the city of exhibitions and art fairs. The largest and most famous is called Art Basel Miami Beach. Art Basel coming to Miami in 2002 changed the environment of the city. The quality of museums, architecture and art is more strong now. Art Basel Miami Beach also affects positively the fashion side of the town and the sales in general. For many stores the sales are even better in Art Basel period than on Christmas. Other events in Miami causes the same positive effect, such as Miami Boat Show in February and Miami Swim Week in May.
Why the name Art Basel Miami?
Basel is the name of a city in Switzerland. In 1970 three businessmen Art decided to create a fair of arts in the city. In its opening the event brought together 90 galleries from 10 different countries. More than 15 thousand people visited the fair. The success was so great that in just five years the fair has already gathered more than 300 artists and galleries from over 20 countries.
Today the fair is displayed in two other cities, as well as Basel: Miami (since 2002) and Hong Kong (since 2013). Visit the official website here.

The impact of the fair in Miami was so great that impacted the neighborhoods around. The Miami Art District and Design District are just going through an art revival.
The city changes
During the Art Week the artistic side of Miami is replaced by the attention of the whole world. Museums and galleries take this global showcase to display their best collections. Journalists, advertisers, architects and designers of all styles and branches organize fairs and exhibitions in neighborhoods such as Design District, South Beach and other central neighborhoods of Miami.
The nightlife in Miami also won with Art Weekend. famous nightclubs promote exclusive parties with the presence of numerous celebrities. Independent producers organize parties in whitespace hired by the city. It’s really a week of parties and celebrations.
