Orlando International Airport (MCO) ended 2021 as the busiest in Florida. There were more than 40 million passengers traveling through the airport in the year, an increase of 86% compared to 2020.

The number has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels. In 2019, the airport registered 50.6 million passengers. However, the more than 40 million passengers in 2021 were enough to keep the MCO at the top of the Florida rankings and climb to the 7th position among the busiest in the entire United States. In 2019 he occupied the 9th position.

“With more than 40 million annual passengers, we are pleased to continue to be the busiest airport in the state of Florida,” says Carson Good, president of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

Resilience

The city of Orlando received 75 million people before the pandemic. The resilience of the state of Florida, corroborated by the movement registered in the MCO, encourage the authorities who hope to soon recover the flow of tourists and professionals who visit the city every year.

For investors in vacation homes in Florida, the numbers are optimistic. The occupancy rate forecast for 2022 could be higher than the traditional average for the region, as there is a pent-up demand from people wanting to travel.

“When the pandemic began, many predicted that it would take several years to recover. By continuing airport operations and construction of the South Terminal, our board has shown confidence in Central Florida’s incredible resilience and 2021 has been much better than expected. I hope 2022 will be another year of growth for Orlando and the region.”

Reopening of Borders

Contributing to the strong year-end numbers was the resumption of international service to Brazil and England, including the first service to one of the busiest airports in the world, London Heathrow. Orlando International has also secured a new service to Hawaii.
