Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood will also host a Brightline train station. The train company has already started building the station in Aventura, which will connect the city to Downtown Miami. However, a stop in Wynwood was not included in the original plan.
The Wynwood-Edgewater-Midtown corridor is one of the fastest-growing areas in Miami and could not fail to be served by the new means of high-speed transport. It is estimated that by 2040 this region will be the most populous in the city.
Last year, Miami Dade County officials authorized the release of approximately $ 77 million for the construction of the new station in Aventura. On September 3, groundbreaking started on a 3-acre area next to Aventura Mall. The new station is expected to be delivered in 2021 and will connect the city of Aventura to the Brightline MiamiCentral station. The new station is expected to generate more than $90 million annually in the local economy, supporting more than 1 million one-way trips.
In October last year, Miami-Dade County officials considered building 3 new stations in three different neighborhoods: Design District, El Portal and North Miami. Wynwood had not yet been included as a new stop in the plans because studies on Miami’s demographic evolution were done years in advance and he used very traditional research tools. No one imagined, at the time, the rapid transformation that the neighborhood of Wynwood and the surrounding area would undergo.
The need for an alternative high-speed transportation
The plans to build an alternative and fast transportation route between Aventura and Miami have been in existence for decades. Congestion in the Aventura neighborhood, observed in the pre-pandemic period, shows the urgency of new investments in mobility in the community. The Aventura neighborhood has been changing and, little by little is no longer a predominantly residential community. Following in the footsteps of Brickell and other more central areas of Miami, Aventura is taking shape in an increasingly urbanized neighborhood, attracting companies and large financial institutions. Brightline new plans
Brightline already operates the corridor Miami – Fort Lauderdale – West Palm Beach. There are also plans to operate services between Orlando and West Palm Beach by the end of 2022.
Recently, Brightline and Disney Group announced a new train station to be built in Disney Springs. Disney Springs is a strategic place for the company, once the area is close to important roads in Orlando, such as I-4.
The train company also wants to connect Orlando airport to Tampa. The Tampa rail segment likely would include a station at Walt Disney World Resort.
Cocoa is also on the plans. The east coast city and nearby areas are experiencing considerable growth.
