Miami-Dade County Commission just authorized further discussions regarding the creation of a commuter rail to operate between Downtown Miami and Aventura, according to The Real Deal.

The plan is to offer up to eight new stations in Miami-Dade, with the possibility to go further north, to cities like Jupiter and others.

The new train would bring an additional benefit to the city, as the Miami-Dade County policy encourages the creation of mixed-use projects close to fast transport corridors. Miami has been receiving a series of new developments that follow the mixed-use trend. In Aventura, the best known is Aventura ParkSquare. In Downtown, Miami World Center is considered one of the largest mixed-use centers in the world, housing condos like Legacy Hotels & Residences and Paramount.

Brightline already operates the line Miami – Fort Lauderdale – West Palm Beach, and have plans to conclude its reach to Boca Raton and Orlando. Due to the pandemic, the trains operation was suspended since March.
