The city of Orlando was listed as having the 52nd best park system in the United States, according to the ParkScore index released by The Trust for Public Land. Reported bizjournals.com.
And we’re not talking about amusement parks this time! We already know that the City Beautiful occupies the first position in the world! The ranking mentioned here refers to public parks. The position occupied by the city of Orlando is impressive, since the comparison is made with all the cities in the United States, which are almost 20 thousand. This is another factor that makes Orlando an ideal place to live, with excellent quality of life.
On the organization’s annual ParkScore Index, Orlando scored above the national average for its percentage of residents who live within a 10-minute walk of a park at 64% compared with 55% nationwide. The City Beautiful has 238 parks in total, with 6% of its total land used for parks and recreation.
Minneapolis ranked as the best park system in the 2020 ParkScore index, overtaking Washington, D.C., largely because of new park acquisitions and strategic expansions. D.C.came in second, and St. Paul, Minnesota finished third. Arlington, Virginia and Cincinnati rounded out the top five.
The ParkScore rankings are based equally on four factors:
- Park access, a measure of the percentage of residents living within a 10-minute walk of a park
- Park acreage, a city’s median park size and the percentage of city area dedicated to parks
- Park investment, a measure of park spending per resident
- Park amenities, the availability of popular park features like basketball hoops, off-leash dog parks, playgrounds, “splash pads” and other water play structures, recreation and senior centers and restrooms
